FAQS

What is Sound Therapy?

Sound therapy is a technique where the practitioner uses sound instruments (tuning forks, singing bowls, drums, and rattles etc) on-the-body and off-the-body of the client to promote the relaxation response and trigger the natural healing processes of the body, restoring physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Specifically, the oscillation (movement) or resonance of molecules triggered by the sound vibrations cause alternating compression and relaxation of cells, essentially forming a massage at a cellular level deep within the tissue undergoing the treatment.

When the cell is compressed it loses some of its lymph fluid, which usually contains waste products and toxins. As the pressure relaxes, fresh nutrients and fluids are drawn into the cell which facilitates the therapeutic healing process. Hormones are also stimulated by this oscillation effect and they will improve blood flow to the area for many hours.

What does a Sound Therapy session feel like?

You may experience any of the following sensations during a sound therapy session: heating or cooling, spinning, tingling, buzzing, electrical sparks, numbness, throbbing, itchiness, and sleepiness (or all of the above).

The majority of my clients have reported feeling very relaxed and often fall asleep during sessions. Receiving sound induces a meditative state where your brainwaves move to the theta phase, where healing occurs. Sound therapy also activates the right brain, which is more about feeling than thinking. It can invoke a dreamlike states where connections can be made. Often clients will feel grounded and energized simultaneously after a sound healing session.

How is a Sound Therapy treatment given?

The client is usually laying on my massage table, if physically able to do so. Treatments can also be given seated if more comfortable or practical. I perform a body scan to assess the clients energy body and identify blockages to the flow. Then I choose the sound healing instrument to use on or near the clients body in a series of ways/protocols, depending on the clients needs. Sound is also deployed to help clear energetic blockages, tune up chakra energy centers, cleanse the aura and to seal the client up following the session.

Are there any contraindications for the use of Sound Therapy?

While sound therapy is completely safe for most people, there are a few contraindications to watch out for. If you are in your first trimester of pregnancy, are epileptic, or have a pacemaker or metal fittings it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional prior to receiving sound therapy.
