MY STORY
My Healing Journey.
I started my journey as a pretty sick kiddo. Allergic to nearly everything, asthmatic, fibromyalgia, acid reflux/GERD…you name it and I was likely on a prescription drug for it. I had inside jokes with my family doctor I would see him that often. And I was told I would be suffering with these diseases, and on prescriptions drugs, dealing with the associated side effects, for the rest of my days.
My journey to health started with me changing my diet to lose weight, not trying to get healthy, just trying to get skinny. I started off introducing healthier foods into my diet and eventually I found myself vegan and gluten free (as that’s what worked best for me). Inadvertently, through changing my diet, I wound up free of all the prescription drugs I had been on (some for over 10 years). A miracle considering my doctor had told me that changing my diet wouldn’t make any difference in my health.
My journey led me to become a certified Health Coach with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). It was great to learn more about nutrition and the other pillars of health. And I had seen first hand how much what we consumed could affect our health. Yet despite all my research and knowledge and trying everything under the sun, supplements, physical modalities, like chiropractic care and massage therapy, still the fibromyalgia pain remained. It was the one thing I couldn’t shake no matter what I tried.
Discovering My Path.
I remember the first time I went for a Reiki session. It felt like I had been worked on by a massage therapist, a chiropractor, and a physiotherapist (at the same time). I was completely wiped, yet no one had touched my body. After the session was over, the Reiki practitioner and I got to talking and somehow ended up on the subject of women’s right to vote and how long it took to get that right. All of a sudden I felt a “ping” in my heart that radiated down my arms and legs and resulted in this ‘fibromyalgia’-like pain. The Reiki practitioner turned to me and said, “you felt that didn’t you?” and proceeded to tell me how to ground to let all that energy release.
I was astounded. The reason I couldn’t find a physical reason for my pain was because the cause of my pain was energetic, not physical! It turns out I am energetically sensitive, an Empath. I was completely open energetically to all the emotions and feelings of other people and the energy, good and bad, in the world around me. I had never been taught how to ground and release all that energy. Instead the energy would get stuck and I would experience pain in my physical body.
That initial Reiki session, and subsequently learning how to heal myself and others, was the start of my healing journey and that journey has completely changed my life (and continues to do so as I learn and grow). I am completely blessed to have been gifted this healing journey as it revealed my path and passion as a healer and guide, using my gifts, training and experience to help others reclaim their whole health.
